Government Economics

It is the month of June, on the shores of the Black Sea. It is raining, and the little town looks totally deserted. It is tough times, everybody is in debt, and everybody lives on credit.

Suddenly, a rich tourist comes to town.

He enters the only hotel, lays a 100 Euro note on the reception counter, and goes to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one.

The hotel proprietor takes the 100 Euro note and runs to pay his debt to the butcher.

The Butcher takes the 100 Euro note, and runs to pay his debt to the pig grower.

The pig grower takes the 100 Euro note, and runs to pay his debt to the supplier of his feed and fuel.

The supplier of feed and fuel takes the 100 Euro note and runs to pay his debt to the town’s prostitute that in these hard times, gave her “services” on credit.

The hooker runs to the hotel, and pays off her debt with the 100 Euro note to the hotel proprietor to pay for the rooms that she rented when she brought her clients there.

The hotel proprietor then lays the 100 Euro note back on the counter so that the rich tourist will not suspect anything.

At that moment, the rich tourist comes down after inspecting the rooms, and takes his 100 Euro note, after saying that he did not like any of the rooms, and leaves town.

No one earned anything. However, the whole town is now without debt, and looks to the future with a lot of optimism.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how the Government is doing business……

HyperLinks Not Working

Anyone have any clues as to why they aren’t?

For example, here’s a Woot link.

Wii Hacking

I’ve been busy the last couple of weeks doing all sorts of things both at work and at home.  Too busy to really look around the Intraweb-tubes much for fun & bloggable items to post and repost for your amusement.

Well, last week I stumbled across a post on one of my daily visits to Lifehacker (awesome site to make life/computers more efficient) that got me going again.  It was how to store your Wii games on an external USB drive.

For those of you with kids (normally boys) and some sort of gaming console, you’ll know that getting them to handle the DVD games with care is a chore at best and impossible at worst.  We “only” have about 12 Wii games and the rule is that the boys lose the Wii priviledges for 24 hours if we find a game not in it’s case.  I know this was a problem with the XBox and the PS2 that we also have from the past.

So when I saw how I could backup my disks legally to an externally connected USB hard drive, I dove right in.  I followed the instructions for our Wii with firmware 3.4 (link for those with firmware 4.0 is here).  Anyway, I had a 500GB external drive and I actually went to Fry’s Electronics and bought a new 8GB SD card for $17.

Here’s a long example of what’s possible.  Yeah, 3 minutes is too long but you’ll get the idea of how fast and also parentally-controlled this setup can be.

The instructions are pretty straight forward and took one night to work through.  However, the actual games being played externally need a USB Loader program and there are at least 12 different ones now depending on your choice of style, colors and how you interact with them.  So during the week I dorked around with different loaders and finally found one that is workable.

My To-Do list is now to make the USB Loader a channel on the Wii’s homepage — if you have a Wii, you’ll understand what I’m talking about — so it’s easier for everyone to get to the USB saved games.  I also have to have a better way of getting the actual game pictures to show up and not just the wording on the screen of which game is which.

Plus, I have found Homebrew, which are user generated games and ports of other games.  I need to investigate now how to get all of the GameCube, Nintendo DS, Gameboy and other systems games to work on this Homebrew setup.

Street Art

I didn’t know that there was such a thing as “Street Art”.  I’ve heard of grafetti, free-style art, etc., etc., etc.  But I ran across this picture and started wondering what other possibilities are out there.

Government Motors (GM) In Action

In a special news conference yesterday, GM (Government Motors) announced its new concept car…

The 2010 OBAMA.

This car runs on hot air and broken promises. It has three wheels that speed the vehicle through tight left turns. It comes complete with two Teleprompters programmed to help the occupants talk their way out of any violations. The transparent canopy reveals the plastic smiles still on the faces of the “happy” Democrat owners.
